ARNOLD PALMER GOLF COURSE
The course winds through ravines, hills and forest to create an expansive layout that spans and incredible 6788 yards. There are only two parallel or back- to-back holes on the course. So in a sense the players are treated to an ecological tour during the play of the game. One might hear the calls of the colorful parrots or see a vibrant butterfly settle briefly on the green. Palmer confirms the spectacular setting: "We were given an excellent piece of property on which to lay out this course- a lush tropical landscape, exciting elevation changes and 360 degree ocean views on many holes.
"I've given the course two distinct characteristics," " it’s either play through tropical vegetation in the lowlands, which we call "the bottom" or through the uplands called “the open” because its plateau affords golfers unlimited views of Papagayo Bay.
Several holes are quite dramatic. The sixth plays some 200 feet downhill, from the plateau to the bottom and then to a green sitting on a cliff overlooking the ocean."
True to form, Palmer has designed a course that promises to challenge yet not overwhelm. We provided multiple tees, ample fairways with strategic bunkering and large greens with exciting contouring. The course is not only beautiful, but a fair test of golf.
Four Seasons Golf Club at Peninsula Papagayo is a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. Endorsed by the United States Golf Association, this program provides information and excellence to help golf courses preserve and enhance wildlife habitat and protect national resources. The course has labelled important trees, turning the cart path into a botanical garden. On each hole, players have the chance to see a diversity of colorful plant, tree, bird and animal species, including congo (howler) and capuchin (white-faced) monkeys.
Amenities include an extensive practice facility with multiple short-game areas. Two complimentary clinics are offered each week and professional private instruction is available seven days a week.
